Forestiades: Informal concerts, recitals and jam sessions among friends, organised in Forest, Brussels. [Derived from: Schubertiades ‘informal gatherings, held at private homes, to celebrate the music of Franz Schubert’  and: 1190 Forest (Vorst) ‘one of the 19 districts in the city of Brussels’.]

Les Forestiades are inspired by all that great fun that Schubert & friends had in Vienna during their very animated musical evenings, as judging by their faces in the pictures! Our soirées musicales, though, are not limited to Schubert’s works, or even to classical music. They may also include some jazz, Spanish music and other sociable pastimes, such as plastic and performing arts, games, drinks and food. We’ve got a nice piano, some guitars, candles, drinks and snacks, sofas and chairs, and even carpets and pillows, to sit on the floor if one day we are too many. Young and experienced musicians and singers from different styles are invited to play for a friendly crowd in a cosy environment. We are happy to organise Forestiades several times per year in our loft and garden, which have a bit more space than the real Schubertiades as shown in the paintings. But it still remains a private home with limited space, so if you’d like to be invited, be ready to actively participate by doing, at least, one of the following:

  • Playing, and/or
  • Singing, and/or
  • Being a supportive, friendly music lover, preferably the kind who brings some drinks or food, keeps quiet during performances, and give big, happy applauses.

Most of the times we will have a “formal” programme, but impromptu performances from participants and audience are always welcome.

Send us an email to forestiades@gmail.com to be in our list for future gatherings. Or follow us in Twitter @LesForestiades or Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/forestiades/
